Intune & Device Management

Intune enrollment fails with 0x80180014

0x80180014

A Windows device refuses to enroll in Intune with error 0x80180014, usually because an enrollment restriction or device limit is blocking it.

What you’re seeing

  • Enrollment stops with error code 0x80180014 when a user adds a work account or the device joins Entra ID.
  • A message along the lines of "Your organization does not support this version of Windows" or that the device cannot be managed.
  • Autopilot or out-of-box setup fails during the device registration step on a reset machine.
  • Other users or other devices enroll without any trouble.

Common causes

Every environment is different, but these are the causes our engineers find most often:

  • An enrollment restriction blocks personally owned Windows devices, and the device is not recognized as corporate.
  • The user has already reached the maximum number of devices they are allowed to enroll.
  • A platform restriction limits enrollment to certain Windows versions or editions, and this device falls outside them.
  • A stale record of the same device from a previous enrollment still exists in Intune or Autopilot.
  • The device was reset or reimaged, but its old Autopilot registration is still tied to another tenant or profile.

Why it matters

A device that will not enroll does not receive the security policies, apps, Wi-Fi profiles or VPN settings the business depends on. If Conditional Access requires a managed device, the user may be locked out of email and files entirely. The usual workaround, relaxing restrictions so the device gets in, can open the door to unmanaged personal devices across the whole tenant, which undermines the controls that keep company data protected.

How AskTechGurus fixes it

Skip the trial and error. A certified engineer works on your actual system, finds the root cause, and fixes it properly.

Tell us what’s happening

A certified engineer diagnoses it

A vetted, US-based systems engineer claims your ticket, usually within minutes during business hours, and investigates over a secure remote session you can watch and end at any time.

Fixed and verified with you

The engineer resolves the root cause and confirms with you that it’s working. You don’t just get a workaround, and you get a plain-English summary of what was wrong.

Pay only when it’s resolved

Fixed price from $99, invoiced only after you approve the fix. If it isn’t resolved, you don’t pay.

Frequently asked questions

Will fixing this loosen our security settings for everyone?

It should not. We identify which specific restriction is blocking the device and resolve it in a targeted way, and we confirm the cause before changing any tenant-wide setting.

Is this a problem with the laptop itself?

Rarely. This error comes from Intune's enrollment rules or old device records, not from a fault in the hardware, so it is solved in the management portal rather than on the PC.
