Intune & Device Management

Intune apps stuck on "install pending" for days

Apps assigned in Intune sit at 'install pending' or 'downloading' and never actually install on users' devices.

What you’re seeing

  • Company Portal shows apps as "Install pending," "Downloading" or "Waiting for install status" that never change.
  • The Intune portal has no install status for some devices, even days after assignment.
  • New employees are missing required apps that colleagues received without issue.
  • Syncing the device from Company Portal or the Intune console makes no difference.

Common causes

Every environment is different, but these are the causes our engineers find most often:

  • The Intune Management Extension that installs Win32 apps is missing, not running or failing on the device.
  • The device has not checked in recently, or its management certificate has expired.
  • The app is assigned to a user group, but the user signs in in a way that does not trigger user-targeted deployments.
  • A dependency or requirement rule, such as disk space, architecture or OS version, is not met and blocks the install.
  • Another installation is already running, or a previous install is waiting for a restart that never happened.
  • A proxy, firewall or content-filtering tool blocks downloads from Microsoft's content delivery network.

Why it matters

Pending apps leave users without the tools they need to do their jobs, whether that is the line-of-business application, the VPN client or the security agent. When the missing app is security software, devices may run unprotected while still appearing managed. IT staff lose time manually installing software that should have deployed automatically, and the rollout of anything new becomes unpredictable for the whole organization.

How AskTechGurus fixes it

Skip the trial and error. A certified engineer works on your actual system, finds the root cause, and fixes it properly.

Tell us what’s happening

Submit a ticket in about two minutes. Paste the error, describe what changed, and pick your tier. No charge to submit.

A certified engineer diagnoses it

A vetted, US-based systems engineer claims your ticket, usually within minutes during business hours, and investigates over a secure remote session you can watch and end at any time.

Fixed and verified with you

The engineer resolves the root cause and confirms with you that it’s working. You don’t just get a workaround, and you get a plain-English summary of what was wrong.

Pay only when it’s resolved

Fixed price from $99, invoiced only after you approve the fix. If it isn’t resolved, you don’t pay.

Frequently asked questions

Can someone just install the app manually instead?

That can unblock one user, but it hides the underlying problem and leaves Intune unable to update or remove the app later. We find out why deployment is stalled so it works for every device.

Does this affect all of our devices or just a few?

It depends on the cause. A device-level fault affects a handful of machines, while an assignment or network issue can affect everyone, and identifying which one is part of the diagnosis.
