Hyper-V & VMware

Hyper-V Replica is failing or in a critical state

Replication to the backup host shows critical or has stopped, so the standby copies of your VMs are out of date.

What you’re seeing

  • Replication Health shows Critical or Warning for one or more VMs.
  • The replication state reads 'Resynchronization required', or replication is paused.
  • The last successful replication time on the replica server is hours or days old.
  • Errors about the replica server being unreachable, certificate problems or authentication failures.
  • Storage on the primary host filling up with replication log (HRL) files waiting to be sent.

Common causes

Every environment is different, but these are the causes our engineers find most often:

  • The network link between sites is too slow or unreliable for the volume of changes being generated.
  • A certificate used for HTTPS replication expired or was replaced on one side.
  • The replica server ran out of disk space and can't accept new changes.
  • Firewall or port changes block the replication listener on the replica host.
  • The primary VM was restored, moved or had its disks changed, so change tracking no longer matches the replica copy.

Why it matters

Hyper-V Replica is often the plan for getting back up quickly if the main server room suffers a disaster. When replication is critical, the standby copies drift out of date, and failing over to them could mean losing hours or days of data, or failing over to nothing usable at all. Meanwhile, log files queued on the primary can consume storage and affect production VMs. Because replication rarely draws attention until it's needed, problems can sit unnoticed for weeks.

How AskTechGurus fixes it

Skip the trial and error. A certified engineer works on your actual system, finds the root cause, and fixes it properly.

Tell us what’s happening

Submit a ticket in about two minutes. Paste the error, describe what changed, and pick your tier. No charge to submit.

A certified engineer diagnoses it

A vetted, US-based systems engineer claims your ticket, usually within minutes during business hours, and investigates over a secure remote session you can watch and end at any time.

Fixed and verified with you

The engineer resolves the root cause and confirms with you that it’s working. You don’t just get a workaround, and you get a plain-English summary of what was wrong.

Pay only when it’s resolved

Fixed price from $99, invoiced only after you approve the fix. If it isn’t resolved, you don’t pay.

Frequently asked questions

Is our primary server affected?

The primary VMs normally keep running, but growing replication logs can consume storage over time. We examine both sides before making changes.

Do we have to copy the whole VM again?

Sometimes a full resync is required, but often only changed data needs to be reconciled. An engineer can determine which path is needed and how long it will take over your link.
