Microphone, camera or speakers don't work in Teams meetings

Other people can't hear or see the user in Teams meetings, or the user can't hear anyone, even though the devices work elsewhere.

What you’re seeing

  • Meeting participants can't hear the user, even though the microphone works in other apps.
  • The camera preview in Teams is black, or Teams reports that no camera was found.
  • The user hears nothing in meetings, or audio plays through the wrong device.
  • A headset works for a while and then drops out partway through a meeting.

Common causes

Every environment is different, but these are the causes our engineers find most often:

  • Windows privacy settings block desktop apps from using the microphone or camera.
  • Teams is pointed at a different device than the one in use, such as dock audio or a monitor's built-in speaker.
  • Another program, like a webcam utility or a second video app, has taken exclusive control of the camera.
  • Audio or camera drivers are outdated or were replaced with a generic driver during a Windows update.
  • A Bluetooth headset switches to the wrong audio profile, which can drop the microphone or degrade sound.
  • Security software or a device control policy prevents Teams from accessing the camera.

Why it matters

Meetings are where sales are closed, projects are coordinated and clients are reassured. When someone can't be heard or seen, the meeting stalls while they rejoin, switch devices or dial in by phone, and the interruption reflects on the whole company. A recurring device problem can quietly eat several hours a week across a team, and a driver or policy issue introduced by an update often affects many computers at once.

How AskTechGurus fixes it

Skip the trial and error. A certified engineer works on your actual system, finds the root cause, and fixes it properly.

Tell us what’s happening

Submit a ticket in about two minutes. Paste the error, describe what changed, and pick your tier. No charge to submit.

A certified engineer diagnoses it

A vetted, US-based systems engineer claims your ticket, usually within minutes during business hours, and investigates over a secure remote session you can watch and end at any time.

Fixed and verified with you

The engineer resolves the root cause and confirms with you that it’s working. You don’t just get a workaround, and you get a plain-English summary of what was wrong.

Pay only when it’s resolved

Fixed price from $99, invoiced only after you approve the fix. If it isn’t resolved, you don’t pay.

Frequently asked questions

Is it the hardware or Teams?

If the device works in other apps, it's almost always a setting, driver or permission rather than faulty hardware. The engineer confirms this before suggesting any replacement.

Can a camera or microphone problem really be fixed remotely?

Yes. The settings, drivers and permissions involved are all on the computer, so an engineer can usually resolve it over a secure remote session and test it with you.
