SharePoint & File Migration

SharePoint Migration Tool sign-in window is blank

The SharePoint Migration Tool opens a sign-in pop-up that stays completely white, so you can never log in and start a migration. Common on government clouds and over Remote Desktop.

What you’re seeing

  • The SharePoint Migration Tool opens its Microsoft sign-in pop-up, but the window stays plain white with no fields to type in.
  • The blank sign-in box appears only when you run the tool over a Remote Desktop connection or on a locked-down server.
  • On a government (GCC High or similar) tenant, the tool never gets past authentication.
  • Closing and reopening the tool brings back the same empty window every time, so no migration task can be created.

Common causes

Every environment is different, but these are the causes our engineers find most often:

  • The embedded browser component the tool uses for sign-in is missing, outdated or blocked on that machine.
  • Enhanced security settings on a Windows Server block the scripts and sign-in pages the pop-up needs to load.
  • The tool is pointed at the commercial Microsoft cloud while the tenant lives in a government cloud, so the sign-in endpoint never responds properly.
  • A proxy, firewall or TLS inspection device prevents the sign-in window from reaching Microsoft's authentication servers.
  • Display and graphics settings in the Remote Desktop session prevent the embedded web view from rendering.

Why it matters

A migration project cannot start until the tool authenticates, so a blank sign-in window freezes the whole schedule. File-server decommissioning dates slip, licenses for the old storage keep running, and consultants or internal staff sit idle. For organizations moving to SharePoint because of a hardware end-of-life or a compliance deadline, every day stuck at this screen adds risk and cost to the project.

How AskTechGurus fixes it

Skip the trial and error. A certified engineer works on your actual system, finds the root cause, and fixes it properly.

Tell us what’s happening

Submit a ticket in about two minutes. Paste the error, describe what changed, and pick your tier. No charge to submit.

A certified engineer diagnoses it

A vetted, US-based systems engineer claims your ticket, usually within minutes during business hours, and investigates over a secure remote session you can watch and end at any time.

Fixed and verified with you

The engineer resolves the root cause and confirms with you that it’s working. You don’t just get a workaround, and you get a plain-English summary of what was wrong.

Pay only when it’s resolved

Fixed price from $99, invoiced only after you approve the fix. If it isn’t resolved, you don’t pay.

Frequently asked questions

Is our tenant or account broken?

Almost never. The account usually signs in fine through a normal browser; the problem is local to the machine running the migration tool or to the cloud it is trying to reach.

Can this be sorted out remotely on our migration server?

Yes. An engineer can usually resolve it in a secure remote session on the machine you plan to migrate from, and we confirm the tool signs in and sees your tenant before we finish.
