Guest Wi-Fi sign-in page won't load

Visitors connect to guest Wi-Fi but the sign-in or terms page never appears, so they can't get online.

What you’re seeing

  • Visitors see the guest network as connected, but no sign-in or terms-of-use page ever pops up.
  • Phones report "No internet connection" or "Connected, no internet" on the guest network.
  • Typing a website address shows a browser security warning or a blank page instead of the portal.
  • Staff devices on the main network work normally while guests are stuck.

Common causes

Every environment is different, but these are the causes our engineers find most often:

  • The captive portal relies on intercepting a web request, and modern sites that load only over HTTPS cannot be redirected cleanly, so the page never appears.
  • The guest network's DHCP or DNS settings are wrong, so devices get no address or cannot resolve the portal's name.
  • The portal's own SSL certificate has expired or does not match its hostname, causing browsers and phones to refuse it.
  • A firewall rule or VLAN change is blocking guest clients from reaching the portal server or cloud controller.
  • The cloud management service or controller that hosts the splash page is offline, unlicensed or unreachable from the guest network.
  • The guest address pool is exhausted, so new visitors cannot obtain an IP address at all.

Why it matters

A broken guest network is often the first impression a client or patient has of your office. Visitors who cannot get online start asking for the staff Wi-Fi password, and once that is shared it tends to spread, putting outside devices on the same network as your file server and point-of-sale systems. For offices that rely on the sign-in page to capture contact details or acceptance of usage terms, those records stop being collected.

How AskTechGurus fixes it

Skip the trial and error. A certified engineer works on your actual system, finds the root cause, and fixes it properly.

Tell us what’s happening

Submit a ticket in about two minutes. Paste the error, describe what changed, and pick your tier. No charge to submit.

A certified engineer diagnoses it

A vetted, US-based systems engineer claims your ticket, usually within minutes during business hours, and investigates over a secure remote session you can watch and end at any time.

Fixed and verified with you

The engineer resolves the root cause and confirms with you that it’s working. You don’t just get a workaround, and you get a plain-English summary of what was wrong.

Pay only when it’s resolved

Fixed price from $99, invoiced only after you approve the fix. If it isn’t resolved, you don’t pay.

Frequently asked questions

Can we just give visitors the main Wi-Fi password in the meantime?

We advise against it. The main network usually gives access to shared drives, printers and business systems, and a password handed to guests is hard to take back. Keeping guests isolated is the reason the separate network exists.

Can the guest portal be repaired remotely?

In most cases, yes. Guest Wi-Fi is typically managed through a cloud dashboard or the firewall, which an engineer can work on during a secure remote session with your permission.
