Wi-Fi connected but 'No internet, secured'

Windows shows it's connected to Wi-Fi but has no internet access, while other devices on the same network work fine.

What you’re seeing

  • Windows shows the Wi-Fi network as "No internet, secured" even though the signal is strong.
  • Phones and other laptops on the same Wi-Fi network browse normally.
  • The laptop has an IP address but cannot load any websites or reach email.
  • The problem started after a Windows update, VPN install or move between office and home.
  • Teams, Outlook and other apps report being offline while the Wi-Fi icon looks connected.

Common causes

Every environment is different, but these are the causes our engineers find most often:

  • The laptop has a static IP address, gateway or DNS setting left over from another network.
  • VPN or security software left behind a network filter or proxy setting that blocks normal traffic.
  • A network adapter driver update introduced a bug or reset power-saving settings that disrupt the connection.
  • The router's DHCP reservation or MAC filtering treats this device differently from others.
  • Windows' connectivity check is blocked, so the status is wrong even though some traffic works.

Why it matters

When one laptop can't get online, that person is effectively out of work: no email, no cloud apps and no video meetings. If it belongs to a manager or salesperson, the cost climbs quickly. Users frequently connect to a personal hotspot or open guest network instead, which can bypass the office firewall and content filtering. A problem that affects a single machine is also a clue that something specific to it, such as leftover VPN or security software, may be misbehaving.

How AskTechGurus fixes it

Skip the trial and error. A certified engineer works on your actual system, finds the root cause, and fixes it properly.

Tell us what’s happening

Submit a ticket in about two minutes. Paste the error, describe what changed, and pick your tier. No charge to submit.

A certified engineer diagnoses it

A vetted, US-based systems engineer claims your ticket, usually within minutes during business hours, and investigates over a secure remote session you can watch and end at any time.

Fixed and verified with you

The engineer resolves the root cause and confirms with you that it’s working. You don’t just get a workaround, and you get a plain-English summary of what was wrong.

Pay only when it’s resolved

Fixed price from $99, invoiced only after you approve the fix. If it isn’t resolved, you don’t pay.

Frequently asked questions

Is the office Wi-Fi the problem?

Probably not, if other devices on the same network work. The cause is usually something on the affected laptop.

Can you connect remotely if the laptop has no internet?

Usually, yes. The user can connect through a phone hotspot or wired connection so an engineer can work on the Wi-Fi issue in a secure remote session.
