What you’re seeing
- The Microsoft Exchange EdgeSync service on the Mailbox server stops or refuses to start, and Event 1045 or related EdgeSync errors appear in the Application log.
- New employees or newly created addresses are rejected at the Edge server as unknown recipients.
- Spam that used to be caught is now getting through, or safe-sender lists no longer seem to apply.
- Synchronization status reports show the last successful sync was days or weeks ago.
Common causes
Every environment is different, but these are the causes our engineers find most often:
- The Edge Subscription has expired or was created against a server that has since been rebuilt or renamed.
- The certificate used to secure the EdgeSync connection between the internal servers and the Edge server expired or was replaced without re-establishing the subscription.
- A firewall rule change blocked the secure LDAP port the internal servers use to push data to the Edge server.
- The AD LDS instance on the Edge Transport server is stopped or its credentials are out of sync with Active Directory.
- Name resolution between the Mailbox server and the Edge server broke after a DNS or network change.
Why it matters
The Edge server is your organization's front door for inbound mail. When EdgeSync stops, that door stops learning who works for you and what your spam rules are. Messages to new staff can bounce, departed employees' addresses may still accept mail, and filtering gradually drifts out of date so more junk and phishing reaches inboxes. Because the decline is gradual, it is easy to miss until customers report bounces or a phishing email gets through.
How AskTechGurus fixes it
Skip the trial and error. A certified engineer works on your actual system, finds the root cause, and fixes it properly.
Tell us what’s happening
Submit a ticket in about two minutes. Paste the error, describe what changed, and pick your tier. No charge to submit.
A certified engineer diagnoses it
A vetted, US-based systems engineer claims your ticket, usually within minutes during business hours, and investigates over a secure remote session you can watch and end at any time.
Fixed and verified with you
The engineer resolves the root cause and confirms with you that it’s working. You don’t just get a workaround, and you get a plain-English summary of what was wrong.
Pay only when it’s resolved
Fixed price from $99, invoiced only after you approve the fix. If it isn’t resolved, you don’t pay.
Frequently asked questions
Is mail still being delivered while EdgeSync is down?
Usually yes, for existing users. The Edge server keeps working from its last copy of your directory, which is why the problem often goes unnoticed until new recipients or filtering changes are involved.
Do we even still need an Edge Transport server?
Many organizations no longer do, especially if they use a cloud filtering service. Our engineer can explain where it fits in your mail flow once EdgeSync is restored, so you can decide with the full picture.
