What you’re seeing
- The Bluetooth on/off toggle no longer appears in Settings or the quick settings panel.
- Paired headsets, mice and keyboards stop connecting and can't be re-paired.
- Device Manager has no Bluetooth category, or shows the adapter with a warning symbol.
- Bluetooth returns briefly after a full shutdown, then vanishes again.
Common causes
Every environment is different, but these are the causes our engineers find most often:
- A Windows or driver update removed or replaced the Bluetooth driver with one that doesn't work with the adapter.
- The combined Wi-Fi and Bluetooth card got stuck in a low-power state, which Fast Startup preserves across restarts.
- Bluetooth support services are stopped or failing to start.
- The adapter was disabled in the BIOS or with a laptop's wireless function key.
- The wireless card itself is failing, which often shows up as Bluetooth disappearing before Wi-Fi does.
Why it matters
Wireless headsets, keyboards and mice are everyday tools, and losing them means tethered workarounds or no headset for calls. Sales and support staff who live on wireless headsets are hit hardest. If the underlying wireless card is failing, Wi-Fi can be next, which would take the laptop offline entirely. Identifying a hardware fault early lets you replace it on your schedule rather than in the middle of a working day.
How AskTechGurus fixes it
Skip the trial and error. A certified engineer works on your actual system, finds the root cause, and fixes it properly.
Tell us what’s happening
Submit a ticket in about two minutes. Paste the error, describe what changed, and pick your tier. No charge to submit.
A certified engineer diagnoses it
A vetted, US-based systems engineer claims your ticket, usually within minutes during business hours, and investigates over a secure remote session you can watch and end at any time.
Fixed and verified with you
The engineer resolves the root cause and confirms with you that it’s working. You don’t just get a workaround, and you get a plain-English summary of what was wrong.
Pay only when it’s resolved
Fixed price from $99, invoiced only after you approve the fix. If it isn’t resolved, you don’t pay.
Frequently asked questions
Does this mean the laptop needs repair?
Usually not. Most cases trace back to a driver or power state, and hardware is only suspected once those have been ruled out.
Will our paired devices need to be set up again?
Sometimes they do, depending on what was changed. The engineer will tell you which devices may need re-pairing once Bluetooth is working again.
